Lesson Plan 2

For this lesson plan I decided to teach on Dinosaurs. The appropriate grade for this is second. This lesson will introduce the students to several different dinosaurs. Students will compare and contrast dinosaurs. This unit's main objective is for the students to recognize the similarities and differences of the different dinosaurs. To introduce this lesson you start by reading "Dinosaur Days" by Joyce Milton. Next you would discuss and inform the children about dinosaurs. After familiarizing them you would go to the computer lab and complete the following webquest activity: Webquest: http://olc.spsd.sk.ca/de/webquests/dino/dinowq.htm. To follow up with this you can put different dinosaurs on the smart board to quiz whether or not children have learned the different types of dinosaurs. http://www.sedl.org/scimath/pasopartners/dinosaurs/ap1.html

Website Evaluation

For the website evaluation assignment I used the evaluation form from
http://school.discoveryeducation.com/schrockguide/evalelem.html. I found this one helpful because it helped you look at many details as it asked you yes or no questions. It was hard for me to find a website that fulfilled all the criteria that I liked. Doing these evaluations on websites is a good idea because it always is questionable whether or not you are using creditable information.

Google Docs

In class we got to learn how to use google docs. This was really neat because the whole class could be online looking and adding to the same document. This could be a really useful tool.

WeB qUeSt & SkYpE

In class we had the chance to do a web quest activity. This is something I have never done before, but it was really fun to check out a bunch of new websites that contain fun activities for children. I, like many others in the class, found it pretty difficult to look at it from a new perspective, and only in that assigned perspective. By doing the different assigned roles it was kind of difficult to come to a conclusion of which website was the best all around for children.

Next in class, we got to be introduced to skype, which is having a web phone conversation for free. This is a really good thing especially for the family and friends who have people in the military. It would really make communication between such a far distance seem like a face to face conversation.

YETC Resources

I had never even heard of this, and it was really exciting to explore on this website! This a great website to help us future teachers out. This had lots of fun information, assistance, and activities that will be great for our future classrooms. http://teacherlink.ed.usu.edu/TLYETC/

Copyright Quiz

Before I even began to check out all the information on copyright I decided to try to take the quiz before. I pretty much missed almost all of them! Then this helped me to search out the answers and get more out of it. There was some really good information. This was information that is good to know, and will help in the future.

Powerpoints

I did miss this day of class that we went over powerpoints, but as I did graduate in 2006 I am pretty up to date with using my powerpoint skills. I love powerpoint. When teachers even say the word presentations I automatically think powerpoint. I think that powerpoint is a good program, and it really helps you to give smooth presentations/lessons as it helps to keep you more prepared.

Learning how to improve pictures in class was very helpful. I love playing with digital pictures, and this was a really easy program to use which was great. This is a picture of my sisters and I.

Lesson Plan

For my lesson plan I started out browsing through the younger grades like kindergarten and first grade. After looking through them I was reminded of a lesson plan that I actually used to teach a math lesson plan to a third grade class during our practicum. After deciding I wanted to use a third grade class, fractions, and a previously used lesson plan, I looked through the third grade math lesson plans on UEN and also combined some of the information I found on the kindergarten lesson plans as well.

Today's Students

I skipped this topic and so now I am backtracking! In class we learned about students of today, and it was really interesting to watch the video, because there was information in it that was shocking to me. I couldn't believe how it explained that our nation's education for students is slipping. For example when it said that only half of our students will even graduate high school. This was a real eye opener!

UEN

The UEN website was way cool. I found lots of good resources on this website. As I was just searching around I was thinking how great it is to have all these ideas to help with lesson plans so you don't have to spend too much time racking your brain to create your lesson plans. Also it is good because it helps to get you brainstorming more easily to create your own lesson's combined with their ideas!

About Me...

Well first of all this class is perfect for me because I am not good with using new technology! As you all well know it has been difficult to get into my blog page! Well....I grew up in Ferron pretty much my whole life. Besides that I lived in Clawson but that is not much of a town for those of you that know Emery County! I enjoy dancing, scrapbooking, camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, and pretty much anything outdoors. I like to do things with my boyfriend so I have had to brush up on some skills such as shooting guns and golfing(which I might add is a killer on your body when you swing wrong and you're out of shape). I tried moving away to Logan to attend classes, but I just cant find to leave my small town girl behind, so I came right back. That is way I am so thankful we can continue our education through the Utah State Extension. I completed my associates through CEU, and now hope to finish my teaching degree through USU! That's a little about me!

Struggling with my blog...

So I have had nothing but issues with this whole blogging thing. The only way this has been made possible is thanks to Carli! I am hoping to play around and figure out how to do things with my blog!
