Lesson Plan 2

For this lesson plan I decided to teach on Dinosaurs. The appropriate grade for this is second. This lesson will introduce the students to several different dinosaurs. Students will compare and contrast dinosaurs. This unit's main objective is for the students to recognize the similarities and differences of the different dinosaurs. To introduce this lesson you start by reading "Dinosaur Days" by Joyce Milton. Next you would discuss and inform the children about dinosaurs. After familiarizing them you would go to the computer lab and complete the following webquest activity: Webquest: http://olc.spsd.sk.ca/de/webquests/dino/dinowq.htm. To follow up with this you can put different dinosaurs on the smart board to quiz whether or not children have learned the different types of dinosaurs. http://www.sedl.org/scimath/pasopartners/dinosaurs/ap1.html

Website Evaluation

For the website evaluation assignment I used the evaluation form from
http://school.discoveryeducation.com/schrockguide/evalelem.html. I found this one helpful because it helped you look at many details as it asked you yes or no questions. It was hard for me to find a website that fulfilled all the criteria that I liked. Doing these evaluations on websites is a good idea because it always is questionable whether or not you are using creditable information.

Google Docs

In class we got to learn how to use google docs. This was really neat because the whole class could be online looking and adding to the same document. This could be a really useful tool.

WeB qUeSt & SkYpE

In class we had the chance to do a web quest activity. This is something I have never done before, but it was really fun to check out a bunch of new websites that contain fun activities for children. I, like many others in the class, found it pretty difficult to look at it from a new perspective, and only in that assigned perspective. By doing the different assigned roles it was kind of difficult to come to a conclusion of which website was the best all around for children.

Next in class, we got to be introduced to skype, which is having a web phone conversation for free. This is a really good thing especially for the family and friends who have people in the military. It would really make communication between such a far distance seem like a face to face conversation.

YETC Resources

I had never even heard of this, and it was really exciting to explore on this website! This a great website to help us future teachers out. This had lots of fun information, assistance, and activities that will be great for our future classrooms. http://teacherlink.ed.usu.edu/TLYETC/

Copyright Quiz

Before I even began to check out all the information on copyright I decided to try to take the quiz before. I pretty much missed almost all of them! Then this helped me to search out the answers and get more out of it. There was some really good information. This was information that is good to know, and will help in the future.

Powerpoints

I did miss this day of class that we went over powerpoints, but as I did graduate in 2006 I am pretty up to date with using my powerpoint skills. I love powerpoint. When teachers even say the word presentations I automatically think powerpoint. I think that powerpoint is a good program, and it really helps you to give smooth presentations/lessons as it helps to keep you more prepared.
